Leaving the bathing suit, sun block, and flip flops behind, I packed my bags for a summer abroad in Finland. With my North Face jacket, gloves, and rain boots, I was ready for a month of chilly days in Jyvaskyla. Finnish students asked me why I would leave the sunny California to spend a cold summer in the Nordic, I told them it’s because I can’t get enough of their saunas, salty liquorice, and vendace fish. Truth is, I’ve never done anything like this before. To even think about going to another country by myself gave me the chills. Then, i see friends’ Instagram pages with full of adventure pictures and tag locations all over the world-- it made me yearn to explore more. Pushing aside fear and hesitation, I booked a one way flight to Finland. The best memories come from being at JAMK university learning, interacting and meeting students all over the world that came together for the program.
